Cricket offers customers access to a variety of the latest devices and feature-rich mobile applications such as unlimited text, instant and picture messaging, Mobile Web, popular games, ringtones and wallpapers. 


Cricket Customers

Cricket customers use their wireless service differently than the average mobile phone user. Based on company surveys, Cricket customers talk an average of 1,500 minutes per month — more than double the wireless industry average.  And 52 percent of Cricket customers have “cut the cord” and rely solely on Cricket for their phone service. By comparison, twelve percent of all other U.S. wireless subscribers rely solely on their mobile phone (Yankee Group survey). In addition, 93 percent of Cricket customers reported their Cricket phone was their primary phone, compared to just over half of traditional wireless customers.


Cricket serves a diverse segment of customers. 53% of Cricket customers are either Hispanic or African-American, compared with just 17% of traditional wireless carriers. Additionally, 57% of Cricket customers report that they make less than $35,000 per year, whereas just 20% of other wireless carriers report the same.


Market Opportunity


Contract-based wireless plans are rapidly reaching market saturation. Wall Street analysts predict U.S. wireless penetration will reach 80 percent by 2010. Additional penetration is expected to come from the market segments Cricket currently serves. Cricket delivers adjusted EBITDA margins similar to other leading wireless telecommunications companies, but from an average rate per user that is one-third less than the industry average. As the face of wireless changes, Cricket is well positioned to capture this opportunity and increase its market share.

Growth Potential

In 2006 alone, Cricket service launched in 14 new markets, including: San Diego, California; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Cincinnati, Ohio; Kansas City, Kansas; Louisville, and Lexington, Kentucky; Kansas City, Missouri; Portland, Oregon; and Austin, El Paso, Houston, and San Antonio, Texas;  

Leap and its partner, Denali Spectrum, LLC (Denali), successfully participated in the Federal Communications Commission's auction of Advanced Wireless Services licenses (AWS-1 Auction No. 66). Leap and Denali were the high bidders on 100 licenses at an aggregate cost of $984 million, or $0.45 per MHz POP, the lowest per MHz POP cost among the six largest bidders. The licenses includes cities such as: Washington, D.C; Chicago, Illinois;  New Orleans, Louisiana; Baltimore, Maryland; Minneapolis, Minnesota;  St. Louis, Missouri; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma;  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Las Vegas, Nevada; Norfolk, and Richmond, Virginia; Seattle, Washington; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
